Newcastle United midfielder Gini Wijnaldum insists he's not happy despite seeing his side fight back to earn a point in the Tyne-Wrar derby.

Wijnaldum produced a moment of brilliance to create the equaliser for Aleksandar Mitrovic as the home side gained a 1-1 draw against Sunderland.

Mitrovic’s 83rd-minute header from Wijnaldum’s cross cancelled out Jermain Defoe’s opener for Sunderland on the stroke of half-time.

The result leaves Newcastle and Sunderland both still in the bottom three of the Premier League table, with the Magpies a point adrift of their rivals.

Wijnaldum told Sky Sports: “We came back but I’m still not happy as we wanted to win and we didn’t.

“If you look at the whole game, we had to win but it’s a draw and we go on.

“The goal was really important. It’s good that we came back but I’m disappointed because we wanted to win this game and I feel we had great chances.”
