Man injured in suspected stabbing in Jarrow remains in serious condition
Police were called to Beech Street and part of the adjoining Fir Street, in Jarrow yesterday afternoon.
The injured man was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary with injuries described as 'consistent with a stabbing'. Northumbria Police said his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Hide AdA spokesman for the force has confirmed that the man remains in a serious condition.
A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH following the incident.
The Great North Air Ambulance had earlier been called to the scene and landed on an adjacent field close by.
Up to eight police vehicles were called to Beech Street.
Residents spoke of their shock at the incident. A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service confirmed that one person had been taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary major trauma unit and had been accompanied by a doctor from the air ambulance.
