Rolando Aarons has told of his pride after being called up by England's Under-21s.

The Newcastle United winger has been named in Gareth Southgate's squad for the European Under-21 Championships qualifier against Switzerland on March 26.

Aarons has previously represented England at Under-20 level.

The 20-year-old said: "It's something I've actually been looking towards this season and I'm happy to have made the squad. It's an honour.

"It seems as if that's when it becomes a bit more serious, but whether I'm called up to the Under-20s or the Under-21s, I don't mind. It's an honour to play for England and I'll always see it that way so I'm buzzing that I'm in the squad.

"After training, I looked at my phone and in the group chat that I'm in with all my friends, they were talking about it.

"Then I saw it on Sky Sports. I didn't know anything about it until about 12 noon."

Aarons has been used as a makeshift left-back this season, but he has been called up for his attacking ability.

"I'll do a job wherever I have to, but obviously I'd like to be a wide player because I like scoring goals and setting goals up," said Aarons.

"Hopefully, when I go there, they see me as an attacker, and I'm looking forward to showing what I can do."
