Morrisons is now only selling free range eggs - here’s why

Supermarket giant Morrisons has ditched battery farmed eggs in an effort to improve animal welfare.

The move makes Morrisons the only major supermarket to sell free range eggs exclusively.

The chain originally committed to selling only free range eggs by 2025, and then by 2022, after bowing to a consumer campaign led by teenager Lucy Gavaghan in 2016.

But the company has managed to make the transition five years earlier than initially planned, after it doubled the number of free range farmers supplying its stores.
