Premier League transfers: Chelsea have reportedly made an enquiry for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Chelsea would have to smash their £115million transfer record paid for Moises Caicedo last summer in order to have a chance of landing the Swedish striker. Isak scored 25 goals in 40 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions during the 2023-24 campaign with 21 of his strikes coming in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 in a club-record £63million deal. He has since scored 35 goals in 67 appearances under Eddie Howe, who has described the striker as ‘world class’.

According to Mail Online, talks between Newcastle and Chelsea have taken place regarding the possibility of a move for Isak. Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League in 2023-24 and are targeting a proven goalscorer in an attempt to break back into the top four after two seasons away.

Newcastle want to keep hold of key players such as Isak and Bruno Guimaraes this summer despite the significant transfer fees they could demand. The Magpies will have to sell players this summer in order to satisfy Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules with the likes of Yankuba Minteh, Miguel Almiron, Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson all linked with potential departures.

Isak still has four years remaining on his contract signed back in 2022 but Newcastle are understood to be looking to agree a new deal with the striker. Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton both agreed long-term deals at St James’ Park last season.
