‘Curious’ - Newcastle United and Liverpool ‘target’ teases summer move

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has admitted he would be ‘curious’ over a move to the Premier League amid speculation that Newcastle United and Liverpool are interested in signing him this summer. Newcastle were interested in Ederson back in January, but financial restrictions meant a move for him at that time simply was not feasible.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are about to embark on their first season with Arne Slot as manager and are searching for ways to bolster his new squad ahead of their return to the Champions League. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to England this summer after impressing for his club where he played 53 games in all competitions last season, including both legs of Atalanta’s triumph over the Reds in the Europa League quarter-final en route to lifting the trophy in Dublin.

Speaking to Diario AS, Ederson spoke about reported interest in him this summer: “If something comes up about a transfer, the club has to accept it first, and that is the most important thing,” he said as translated from Portuguese. “I have a good relationship with Atalanta, so the moment they come and tell me that they have some kind of offer, that will be when the talks start. 

“At the moment, I am an Atalanta player and I am still an Atalanta player. When my time with the national team ends, I will also enjoy a short vacation, which is important to rest, and then I will return to Italy.”

Asked about if a move out of Italy would suit his style more, he responded: “I don't know, I've thought about it a lot, I like Italy, I'm well adapted, but I'm curious about the Premier League, so I don't know. 

“I'm still growing, so I don't know if I'll stay in Italy, I think I still have more to prove. If I go somewhere else, then too. I will continue to grow.”

Ederson is currently away with Brazil ahead of their Copa America campaign which gets underway later this month. He is set to battle with Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for a starting spot in Dorival Junior’s preferred eleven for the tournament.
