Everton are set to sign a winger after talks with Newcastle United and Yankuba Minteh stalled.

Marseille winger Iliman Ndiaye is undergoing a medical at Everton after a deal totalling around £17million was agreed with the winger. Ndiaye previously shone for Sheffield United in the Championship before making the move to Ligue 1.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ndiaye has agreed a five-year deal at Everton.

Romano posted: “Iliman Ndiaye, currently on Merseyside undergoing medical tests as new Everton player. OM will receive €18.5m plus €1.5m add-ons, Ndiaye signs a five-year contract until June 2029.”

This comes after Everton were in talks to sign winger Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle. The Toffees were in pole position to sign the 19-year-old but talks failed to progress after Newcastle withdrew from negotiations regarding striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as part of a double deal with their Premier League rivals. But Everton’s move for Ndiaye could still have a knock-on impact on Minteh’s future as Marseille have been strongly linked with a move for the winger.

Ndiaye’s departure frees up a space in Marseille’s squad for a winger and reports from French outlet Foot Mercato have suggested Minteh is keen on a move to the Ligue 1 club. The 19-year-old has also been in talks with Lyon over a potential transfer.

Newcastle are reluctantly looking to sell the winger before the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules deadline on Sunday, June 30.
